Atufted, perennial grass with slender, light green, deciduous leaves. It thrives in brackish marshes, dunes, and beaches along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. From spring to fall, it produces small flowers in dark-colored panicles, followed by tiny fruits. Saltmeadow Cordgrass provides vital habitat for wildlife like muskrats, mink, and alligators. It’s great for ground cover in saline areas, beachfront stabilization, or salt marsh restoration. Its rhizomes are eaten by nutria, while geese graze on new foliage in spring.
