As a tropical native, the fiddle-leaf fig cannot survive New England winters outdoors. However, this is an advantage for controlling its size. The plant's growth will slow during the colder months indoors, and the restricted light, space, and pot size of an indoor environment will naturally keep the tree from reaching its full native height of 40 to 60 feet. During the summer, you can move the pot outside to a sheltered deck or patio to encourage vigorous growth.
To care for an indoor fiddle leaf fig
Provide bright, indirect light
Water when the top inch or two of soil is dry
Maintain consistent room temperatures between 65-75°F with high humidity
Fertilize monthly during the growing season
Dust the large leaves with a damp cloth, rotate the pot weekly for even growth
Avoid cold drafts or frequent moves to prevent leaf drop
